British Adventures in America

"I'm American English"

Question, have you ever met an American Englishman?

Today I got a barnet cut. No pictures, sorry. While chatting with my stylist she told me "I'm American Italian". I've met American Irish, American Greek, Welsh American and American Chinese. Each very proud of their descendants, their heritage. Yet, I've never met anyone describing themselves as American English. Why? Is it too humiliating? Do these people even exist? Were all the English kicked out back in the revolution?

English Americans, are you out there?

Would you like some Jazz with your toast?

Boston takes Jazz seriously. Really seriously. So much so that you can eat brunch while sat next to a live Jazz band grinding out some Herbie, merely 10 foot away.

That was my experience yesterday morning with @carlincakes and @onward_outward (happy birthday!) at Ryles in Cambridge. Was it good Jazz? Who knows. My attention was focused on the huge portion of Bavarian French Toast. Nom Nom Nom. All other breakfasts looked delicious and I'd certainly go back.

If you're a Jazzist and come to stay at The House of Pants, we'll put Ryles on the agenda!

License Plates: The 50 state license plate project

I'm sad. It's true. I don't collect stamps or spot trains. No. I have a different vice.. License plates and like Pokemon, I've gotta collect them all. I'm doing well too, so far I've seen over half the states.

The states I've spotted are on the map above. Green I've seen. I'm impressed with the traveling abilities of the west coast states, I'm also glad to see the 'southern' states holding up to their reputation. It may be a while before I see Hawaii or Alaska, at least in Boston. If you catch a glimpse of any red state, tweet at me... @lancebastion.

Photos: A few images from my Autumn walk

I popped out for 30mins today to try and shoot the sunset. I just missed it but there was still enough light to shoot some reflections on mystic lake..

Welcome to my blog

Hi! I'm David Bowers (aka Lancebastion online). If you know me, skip this post. No new info here. If you don't here's some background...

Having moved  out of the @houseoftrouser to the US in May I have decided to chart my adventures overseas. This blog will contain videos, photos and tails of the (often strange) country that is America. Arlington, MA (I type MA because I can't spell Massachusetts) is my nnew home, a suburb of Boston and is a semi dry town. That's right. No pubs. Quite a change to my previous home of Wolvercote, Oxford, which had 4 pubs for a population of a couple of thousand.

I studied Electronic Imaging and Media Communication in Bradford back in 2003 and you can find some videos on my YouTube Channel, you can also find me on twitter and facebook. I now work in digital marketing for Focal Press, if you're interested in any area of media technology check out their books. I'm also a top 1000 Amazon.co.uk reviewer and aim to hit the .com reviews soon.
So, there's some background on me. Now let's discover America.
